Two of my countless hobbies are singing and acting in drama and musical theatre. I've been acting for 7 years. One of my most memorable roles is 'Consuela' from the musical West Side Story at Olmsted Performing Atrts. The auditions were in June. I found out about them the day of an hour before. I was a bit nervous because I never auditioned for OPA before. Also, I didn't have much time to prepare. There were lots of people when I arrived. I saw some of my friends there and we wished each other good luck.
For my audittion I sang "Think of Me"--Phantom of the Opera and read one of the selections. The dance auditions were 2 hours later. I did really well and the director wanted me up front the hwole time. Finally, after all the auditions, I went home. In total my auditions took 9 hours. I felt very well about my audition.
The next day I got an e-mail from the director. I scrolled down the page and saw my name under the main cast list. I was so ecstatic and happy. Rehearsalss began later that month. At one of the singing rehearsals out musical director told us that the solo "Somewhere" was available. I auditioned with 7 other girls. I really wanted the solo because it was a Soprano 1 song that was great for my range. As I waited I could smell the tension and suspense in the air. All the sounds were drowned out by the thudding of my heart. It felt as if it was about to burst.
Finally, he said he still didn't know. He wanted two girls to sing it one more time. He called my friend Lindsey Mercer and me. Even though I had to sing again, just being considered made me feel joyful. So Lindsey and I sang again. We waited while he decided.
Then, he said he wanted ME to sing the solo. He said my voice was perfect for it.
So far it's my favorite solo I have ever sang.
